Tri-Cities’ Only Fellowship-Trained Shoulder and Elbow Sub-specialist: Dr. Josh Dworkin

At Benton Franklin Orthopedic Associates, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Josh Dworkin to our team—a physician whose expertise, dedication, and military service bring a new level of orthopedic care to the Tri-Cities. As the region’s only fellowship-trained Shoulder and Elbow Sub-specialist, Dr. Dworkin offers a rare and highly specialized skill set that is transforming how we treat complex joint conditions.

What Is a Fellowship-Trained Shoulder and Elbow Sub-specialist?

After completing medical school and a five-year orthopedic surgery residency, a fellowship-trained sub-specialist undergoes an additional year of intensive, focused training. This fellowship is dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of shoulder and elbow conditions. It includes advanced techniques in joint preservation, minimally invasive arthroscopy, complex reconstructions, and revision surgeries.

This level of training ensures that patients receive care from a physician who is not only a board-certified orthopedic surgeon but also an expert in the latest innovations and procedures specific to the shoulder and elbow. Whether you're an athlete with a rotator cuff tear, a senior with arthritis, or someone recovering from a traumatic injury, Dr. Dworkin brings the precision and experience needed for optimal outcomes.

Dr. Dworkin’s journey in medicine began with his service in the United States Army, where he completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. During his residency, he provided care for service members across all branches of the military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard—and contributed to research across all orthopedic sub-specialties.

Following his residency, Dr. Dworkin served as an active-duty orthopedic surgeon at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital (BJACH) in Fort Polk, Louisiana. There, he held the position of Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, overseeing the care of soldiers, their families, and military retirees. His leadership and commitment to excellence earned him recognition throughout the military medical community.

A Personal Touch: Family, Community, and Passion

Dr. Dworkin recently relocated to the Tri-Cities with his wife and two children. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys hiking, beach outings, football, and wrestling. His approachable nature and dedication to family life resonate with the values of our community.   He believes in treating every patient with the same care and attention he would offer his own family—listening closely, explaining clearly, and working collaboratively to develop personalized treatment plans.

Why Choose Dr. Dworkin?

If you're experiencing shoulder or elbow pain, stiffness, or injury, you deserve care from a specialist who understands the intricacies of these joints. Dr. Dworkin’s advanced training, military discipline, and compassionate approach make him uniquely qualified to help you regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities you love.
